Ascot win for Mukalal

Mukalal maintained the fine form of the team with a determined success over seven furlongs in the Class 3 Troy Asset Management Handicap at Ascot on Friday.

A powerful, progressive type who has always shaped like a good horse at home he was winning for the third time this season.

Mukalal was taken down to the start early by Jim Crowley, and came back rapidly in a manner that saw him dominate his rivals for most of the race.

But the last furlong on testing ground seemed to stretch his stamina and he did extremely well to hang on by a nose from Tribute Act despite drifting markedly left in the closing stages.

Marcus Tregoning understandably has a high opinion of Mukalal and will be advising his owner Sheikh Hamden to keep him in training as a four year old.

The trainer explains “He is a tall, strong horse who has promised plenty and has always run well. As he has a high cruising speed and hits the gates very fast it makes sense to use his stride.

“I do think he could improve a lot and become a Saturday horse next year if Sheikh Hamdan decides to keep him in training”.
