HAWKERLAND PROVES HE CAN GO THE DISTANCE

Hawkerland doubled his score for the season with a comfortable success in a Class 5 handicap over two miles at Chepstow on Tuesday evening.

A narrow winner despite running green at Yarmouth three weeks ago over just short of twelve furlongs he clearly relished the step up in trip as he stayed on well to see off the strong challenge of Wordiness.

Hawkerland was ridden with a mixture of patience and confidence by stable apprentice Tyler Saunders to put his seal on the race.

The young jockey continues to impress despite briefly taking things a little bit too easily in the final furlong.

“I’ll be having a word with him about that but he’s given him a good ride”, said Marcus Tregoning who bought the winner as a foal for his owner Guy Brook.

The trainer revealed that long term he hopes Hawkerland, by Sea The Stars, could develop into a Cup horse.

Tregoning added “There is plenty of stamina in his family, he is progressing well and I’d like to think he can build on this. I couldn’t be happier with him.”
