IMPRESSIVE WIN FOR IMPHAL

IMPRESSIVE WIN FOR IMPHAL

Imphal shaped like a promising young stayer as he opened his winning account at Bath on Friday night.

Having run well in finishing second at the same course three weeks earlier he took a decisive step forward wearing cheekpieces first time with a comfortable success in a Class 6 three year old handicap over a mile and five furlongs on firm ground.

Imphal was always handy, took up the running from the favourite Newt two furlongs out and keep on strongly in the closing stages to repel the challenge of Plato’s Code by one and three quarter lengths.

He was given a typically sound ride by stable apprentice Tyler Saunders who is making the most of the chances given him by Marcus Tregoning.

Imphal is by the stallion of the moment Nathaniel who sired this month’s Oaks winner Enable.

While he is not going to reach those dizzy heights there is good reason to think that he can continue to progress as the season unfolds.
