Red Royalist gained an overdue first success in a triple photo finish at Goodwood on Tuesday.
Second on his debut at Ascot last September, he then finished a close and highly encouraging third in a valuable sales race at Newmarket the following month before being gelded this spring.
So although Red Royalist has taken time to find his form this year he was certainly not winning out of turn at Goodwood at his first attempt over ten furlongs.
The step up in trip from a mile seemed to do the trick as he kept on well inside the final furlong to beat Hats Off To Larry by a neck with Fearsome the same distance away in third place.
Red Royalist was the latest of Marcus Tregoning’s useful team of three year olds to strike a winning note and the in-form trainer can look forward with confidence to more success in the coming weeks.
