SEAFARER BACK IN THE WINNING GROOVE

SEAFARER BACK IN THE WINNING GROOVE

Seafarer was deservedly back in the winning groove at Chepstow on Thursday after a frustratingly finishing second on his three previous outings.

His form this season looks solid with his most recent conqueror Nathan hacking up in a decent handicap at Newbury last weekend.

The downside is that Seafarer’s mark has gone up 11 lbs for those three defeats.

He certainly seemed to appreciate the step up in trip to twelve furlongs at Chepstow as he stormed two and a quarter lengths clear of the favourite Star of the East in the closing stages of the Class 4 handicap.

Winning jockey Hayley Turner was impressed by the potential of Seafarer who she described as still a bit of a baby.

“I really had to tell him what to do before the penny dropped and he relished the trip. The further he went the better”, she said.

With the third horse Sparte Quercus seven further lengths back Seafarer looks booked for another hike by the handicapper.

But you sense that Marcus Tregoning is looking forward to planning an interesting  Autumn campaign for this good looking son of Henrythenavigator.
