DOUBLE AT GOODWOOD
Marcus Tregoning enjoyed a double on Friday evening in just over an hour at Goodwood which he likes to describe as his favourite racecourse.
Never Dream was the first to strike on his handicap debut in a Class 5 handicap over seven furlongs before Skysail bounced back to form with an easy victory in a Class 4 handicap over a mile on his first run since wind surgery.
Both horses were well ridden by Kaiya Fraser on a card restricted to apprentice jockeys.
Kaiya produced Never Dream with a nicely timed run to lead inside the final furlong on the way to beating Sonmarg by half a length.
The winner was bought by Marcus for Mrs Wates for 28,000 guineas as a yearling, showed a little promise in three runs last season, has progressed over the winter and has scope for further improvement.
Skysail was already a course winner and on this evidence had clearly benefited from gelding and a wind op as he breezed clear of his rivals in the closing stages in the colours of Whitsbury I.
Given that he crossed the line full of running, and is clearly ahead of his official mark it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him out again sooner rather than later.
