ANOTHER BRIGHTON WIN FOR WISPER

There is no place quite like Brighton for the jaunty chestnut filly Wisper who gained her fourth win at the seaside track inside ten months on Thursday in the colours of the Reigning Partnership.

She was given entries by Marcus Tregoning over ten and twelve furlongs at this meeting and the decision to go for the shorter Class 5 handicap paid dividends as she came from last to first to win with something to spare.

Tregoning, who took over the training of the four year old filly from Michael Blanshard this season, reflected “Wisper is not the biggest but she tries very hard, is gradually settling better and we are lucky to have her. It helps that she goes on any ground”.

Wisper was gaining her latest success off a mark of 68 and was firmly on top at the finish despite her jockey Dougie Costello easing her down in the closing stages.

What she lacks in size she more than makes up for in determination and she will surely remain competitive when she is stepped up in grade.

Tregoning paid tribute to Blanshard, who retired from training at the end of last season but is still closely involved with Wisper as a key figure in the enthusiastic group who own her.

He added “We are having a bit of a quiet time because of the dry weather but hopefully things will pick up now”.
