PROMISING SECRET SOLACE WINS AT SALISBURY
Secret Solace fulfilled the promise of her recent debut with a determined success in the colours of Guy Brook in a division of an EBF Novice Stakes over seven furlongs at Salisbury on Thursday.
Thirteen days earlier she belied her odds of 50-1 with a strong late run into third place in a competitive maiden at Newbury.
Much sharper from the off at Salisbury, she was quickly out of the stalls, always in the first two and showed a willing attitude to withstand the persistent challenge of Havana Blue by a neck with the favourite Greek Order a close third.
Marcus Tregoning spoke warmly of Secret Solace afterwards.
“I’ve always thought a lot of her and I liked the way she kept pulling out more when she was challenged by the runner up”, he said.
The trainer hinted that Secret Solace might be put away for next season when he would like to aim her at the Cheshire Oaks, a race in which her dam Secret Pursuit finished a close second in 2014.
Tregoning recalled buying Secret Pursuit with Guy Brook at the Aqana breeze up sales at Saint-Cloud in France.
“She did the slowest breeze but had the strongest pedigree”, he related.
“Secret Solace shows plenty of pace and I think at this stage she she could be just as good as her mother. The Cheshire Oka is the long term plan. It’s a bit of a dream”.
