A DOUBLE WITH QUIETNESS AND CORRIAMO WINS
Marcus Tregoning enjoyed a high-profile double on Saturday with his prolific mare Quietness winning the £30,000 mile and a half William Hill Silver Cup shown on ITV at Beverley before Corriamo swooped fast and late to land a valuable nursery at Sandown.
Quietness has been a revelation since moving to Whitsbury and extended her summer of excellence with her fifth success from six starts.
Her winning run began at Windsor in May off a mark of 68 and she was nicely on top at the finish once more at Beverley off her current rating of 91 as she held the challenge of Walter Hartright by half a length.
Quietness is tough, genuine, stays well and may well have more to offer as her trainer considers the next step for her in Listed company.
He said “She is still improving but we will not rush to run her again quickly because she has been on the go for a while. I think she will act on the autumn ground and the jockeys who have ridden her think she is up to Pattern level at the same trip which is exciting for her owners.”
Tregoning had made the long haul North to Beverley at the wheel of his horsebox and was in top spirits for the return journey after watching Corriamo show the searing pace of his sire Mohaather as he snatched victory at Sandown by a head in the colours of Aurelius Racing.
He had won on his handicap debut at Leicester off 63 and defied a 5lbs rise in a manner that suggests he can continue to progress.
His trainer reported afterwards that he had been a little raw and was learning to race with experience.
He said “Corriamo should keep improving and I feel he could be a little bit better on easier ground. So I’m hopeful he can have a productive campaign in the autumn when stepping up to a mile.
“We have always liked him since we bought him at a bargain price at the December sales and he has bags of pace.
“It’s lovely to see horses by Mohaather doing so well in general.”
