Another day. Another success for Marcus Tregoning’s talented band of three year olds.

On Thursday it was the turn of Seafarer to showcase his talents at Chepstow with a clear cut victory.

Twenty four hours later Imphal displayed resolution and stamina In equal measure at Goodwood as he completed a hat trick of wins with a withering late run that took him to the front in the final stride of the Class 5 Butlins Handicap.

Imphal has shaped all season like a stayer of considerable potential and despite being keen in the early stages on his first attempt over two miles he was doing all his best work in the final furlong as he foiled a gamble on the lightly raced Kozier by a short head.

He has been ridden to all three triumphs by stable apprentice Tyler Saunders who plays an important part on the gallops at Whitsbury in the mornings and is making the most of his opportunities on the racecourse.

Although Imphal’s handicap rating has already gone up a stone during his winning sequence to a mark of 72 he is bound to be raised again after this latest success.

He continues to improve with experience and could well play a part in the better staying handicaps as as the season unfolds.
