Atalanta Breeze overcome a lengthy absence with an encouraging first success at Brighton on Monday.

She hadn’t been seen in public since three quick runs for experience over seven furlongs inside a month on the all weather late last year.

Given that she is by Champs Elysees staying was always going to be her forte and that proved the case as she began to make progress in the final three furlongs at Brighton before edging ahead 200 yards from home.

Atalanta Breeze then pricked her ears at the novelty of being in front in a race for the first time in her life and looked a little green in the closing stages.

But she kept on willingly to hold Royal Dancer by half a length and will be much wiser for the experience next time.

Marcus Tregoning will be delighted that his patience has been rewarded by Atalanta Breeze who was running off a modest mark of 53 on Monday and has scope for further improvement over a trip.
