Barca justified strong support with a pleasing first victory in a Class 6 handicap at Chelmsford on Friday evening.

A powerful gelding by War Front he was given a confident ride by former champion jockey Jim Crowley on his first attempt at two miles.

The step up in trip clearly suited Barca who was always travelling smoothly behind the leaders.

Although Crowley had to wait for a gap to come in the home straight, the moment one appeared a furlong out he sent his mount to the front and the race was as good as over.

Barca kept on strongly to the finishing line to beat Sacred Sprite by a length in a manner which suggests he can be placed to advantage again by Marcus Tregoning at this trip once the handicapper has had his say.
