BRILLIANT GROUP 2 SUMMER MILE WIN FOR MOHAATHER
Stable starshowed searing acceleration as he gained a brilliant success in the Group 2 Betfred Summer Mile at Ascot on Saturday.
While Marcus Tregoning’s faith inhas been unshakeable he has had to be patient after a leg injury forced the colt onto the sidelines for several months shortly after his success in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury in April last year.
He had been working as well as ever ahead of the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot but a luckless run in that race saw him repeatedly denied daylight before he finished with a flourish behind the placed horses.
Back at Ascot on Saturdaylooked every inch a Group 1 horse In the hands of Dane O’Neill as he shot clear of his rivals in a matter of strides in the straight on his way to beating San Donato by three and three quarter lengths.
Afterwards Tregoning suggested that the lightly raced four year old could well be the best miler he has ever trained.
He said “Things went wrong at Royal Ascot but he is back on track now. He’d been going so well at home I was hoping he would deliver here and he certainly did.
“I thought on the way to Ascot that he was a solid Group 2 horse but he is obviously better than that.
“It is very exciting that he has shown he gets the mile readily before we step him up to Group 1 company. The Sussex Stakes at Goodwood is very much on the cards.
“That was the original plan and his owner Sheikh Hamdan quite likes it but we will see what he would like to do.”
