Margub made an explosive return to action with the easiest possible success in the second division of a novice stakes over seven furlongs at Chelmsford on Friday evening.

With Jim Crowley held up in traffic en route from Sandown Hayley Turner donned Sheikh Hamdan’s blue and silks on Margub who had shaped with promise when finishing fifth on his sole start at two at Goodwood just over a year ago.

Forced to missed the rest of the season he looked much improved as he travelled through the race at Chelmsford with eye-catching ease before bounding into the lead over a furlong out and beating Domestic Way by nine lengths.

Marcus Tregoning will be keen to make up for lost time with the son of Bated Breath who possesses bags of speed and should be placed to good effect in the months ahead.
