Freckles provided a timely boost for the team at Bath on Wednesday evening following the set back that led to Mohaather’s withdrawal from Saturday’s 2,000 Guineas.
An attractive Arakan filly bred by his owners John and Heather Raw, Freckles had shown a degree of promise in three runs last season which earned her a handicap mark of 60.
With our former apprentice Tyler Saunders claiming a handy 7 lbs Marcus Tregoning felt she had a decent chance at Bath in the Class 6 handicap over a mile if she coped with the ground conditions from a tricky draw widest of all in stall thirteen.
Freckles was clearly equal to the challenge as she came from off the pace on the stands side to win with something to spare.
At the line she was well in command two and a quarter lengths clear of Princess Way who completed a hat trick last October.
With normal improvement Freckles should still be competitive once the handicapper has had the chance to react.
