Raasel showed bags of pace in making an impressive winning debut over five furlongs in the colours of Sheikh Hamdan at Bath on Wednesday.

An 80,000 Guineas yearling purchase, he was soon tracking the pace, travelling comfortably, before easing into the lead fully two furlongs out and then stretching clear to beat the odds on favourite Amarillo Star by two and a quarter lengths.

It was a highly pleasing first outing by the son of the smart sprint sire Showcasing given that the runner up is rated 89 and had recently finished fifth of seventeen in the £100,000 Listed Redcar Two Year Old Trophy under the steadier of 9 st 2 lbs.

Raasel has scope to progress over the winter, coped well with the testing conditions at Bath and should have plenty going for him as a three year old.
