Mohaather provided Marcus Tregoning’s first juvenile success of the season with a gritty victory in the opening EBF Novice Stakes over six furlongs at Nottingham on Monday.

A good looking colt by Showcasing from a prolific family he showed bags of promise when second on his debut at Newbury nineteen days in the colours of the stable’s long time patron Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.

That experience was not wasted on Mohaather who was always prominent at Nottingham before taking on the leader two furlongs out and keeping on with a pleasing willingness to snatch the verdict by a short head from Alfred Boucher with the hot favourite Swindler the same distance away third.

The form looks solid with the two placed horses both having finished second last time in decent maidens.

A 110,000 Guineas purchase as a yearling Mohaather is related to several useful winners and with normal progress should enhance the family’s record further.
