Mukalal gained an overdue first success of the season at Leicester on Tuesday with the help of a first time visor.

He hinted at an imminent return to form with an excellent run into fifth place in a competitive and valuable seven furlong handicap at Goodwood late last month.

Marcus Tregoning felt the visor definitely made a difference as Mukalal finished strongly to snatch the verdict by a head in a decent Class 3 Handicap by a head from Flavius Titus in a tight four way finish racing off a mark of 93.

A powerful four year old gelding by Mawatheeq, he was notably consistent last season and is finally making up for lost time after a frustrating campaign in 2018.

Tregoning noted “It’s been a shame it hasn’t worked out for Mukalal this year until now because he is a nice horse, a big unit and the quick pace here suited him.

“It was pleasing to see him back in the winner’s enclosure and he could be heading for Chelmsford next as the prize money is so good there.”
