Power of Darkness again impressed as he defied trouble in running to record a cosy victory in the £29,508 Shergar Cup Mile at Ascot on Saturday.

It came less than 24 hours after Barca was successful for the team in the final race at Chelmsford on Friday evening.

Marcus Tregoning has always held the lightly raced Power of Darkness in high regard and the four year old gelding is certainly making up for lost time this season.

He won nicely at Salisbury seven weeks ago and was again doing his best work at the finish as he comfortably defied a rise of 3lbs.

He was given a cool ride by Vincent Ho from Hong Kong who coolly extricated his Mount from a pocket on the rails early in the straight before delivering him with a telling late charge that gained the day.

Once he found daylight Power of Darkness showed an impressive turn of foot as he dashed past several rivals in the final furlong on his way to beating Zhui Feng by a length.

Tregoning was full of praise for Ho on his first visit to Ascot and is already on the record for suggesting that the Cambridgeshire could be a suitable late autumn target for Power of Darkness who raced off a mark of 94 on Saturday.
