SIX LENGTH WIN FOR SPIRIT OF ANGEL

Spirit of Angel justified the long journey north from Hampshire with an excellent six length victory in a competitive mile and a half handicap at Newcastle on Thursday.
He looked a class apart on his first attempt on the Tapeta surface with the help of an ice cool ride from Ben Curtis.
Spirit of Angel has run consistently all year, winning for the first time at Chelmsford back in May and finishing runner up last time at Windsor in attritional conditions.
His performance on Thursday suggests there could more to come from him next year.
He was still towards the rear of the pack turning for home before making relentless progress which took him to the front going into the final furlong.
He then stayed on so strongly that he was fully six lengths clear of the runner up Glorious Dane at the line.
