SPANISH BLAZE WINS AT NEWBURY
Spanish Blaze won tidily on his second start at Newbury on Thursday at the rewarding odds of 50-1 ridden by Trevor Whelan in the colours of Whitsbury IV.
He was notably green on his debut at the track early last month when finishing in the rear.
But he has progressed nicely since then and despite again showing signs of inexperience on Thursday he buckled down well to land a competitive six furlong Novice Stakes by a length from Payment in Kind.
Spanish Blaze was very keen in the first part of the race before making progress from half-way and keeping on strongly with a late challenge which took him to the front in the closing stages.
It was a highly pleasing performance by an improving colt who will have learned plenty from the outing.
He was well bought for 15,000 Guineas by Marcus Tregoning at the Tattersalls Book 3 yearling sale last October and should continue to give his owners plenty of fun as the season progresses.
