STRONG VICTORY FOR RAWYAAN AT BRIGHTON
Rawyaan overcame notable inexperience on his way to his first success in a Class 5 maiden race over seven furlongs at Brighton on Thursday in the colours of the Shadwell Estate Company.
A big, raw, grey colt by Markaz he was very green on his debut at Salisbury twelve days ago and was quite a handful in the paddock at Brighton where his trainer’s daughter Jessie Tregoning, a University student, did well to keep a lid on him.
When the stalls opened Rawyaan showed that he still has plenty to learn and briefly appeared unbalanced on the undulating track as he raced behind the leaders. But the ability is there and once he was switched to the outside by Dane O’Neill and found his stride he made relentless progress that took him to the front well inside the final furlong.
He finished so strongly that he was firmly in charge at the line where he beat Turn Back Time by a length and a quarter.
Dane O’Neill, enjoying his second winner for the yard inside 48 hours, reported that Rawyaan had learned a bit at Salisbury and should progress again.
Marcus Tregoning described the colt as a bit of a bullock who likes to think he can take charge!
“He is a big chap, knows it and has been something of a challenge. But he is going the right way now and I’ll see how he comes out of this race before looking at a run in a nursery next”.
