WISPER WINS AGAIN AT BRIGHTON
Wisper improved her already excellent course record at Brighton with a narrow victory on her seasonal debut on Tuesday in the colours of the Reigning Partnership.
In winning a competitive mares handicap over ten furlongs off a mark of 82 she earned a prize of £13,500 as she brought her score at the seaside track to five.
Wisper, aged five, always runs well at Brighton, goes well fresh, is straightforward to train and seems to be improving with age. She moved stylishly into the lead inside the final furlong and then held the late challenge of Crystal Estrella by a head.
She was ridden by her regular jockey Dougie Costello who reported that she tends to think she has done enough once she strikes the front.
Marcus added “It’s a pleasure to train Wisper for a team of enthusiastic owners headed by her previous trainer Mike Blanshard.
I always enjoy having runners at Brighton where I recorded my first winner in 1997.
I’m down on the number of horses we have in training at Whitsbury this year and would like to build up again to around a total of sixty.
I’ve picked up the numbers before and can do it again. A few more like Wisper would certainly help.”
