FLUENT SUCCESS FOR AL AZHAR AT NEWBURY
Al Azhar doubled his score for the season with a fluent success in a Class 5 handicap at Newbury on Thursday on his first start over twelve furlongs.
An attractive gelding by Invincible Spirit he seemed to appreciate the step up in trip, held a prominent position from an early stage and was the only one able to mount a challenge to the long time leader Greatness Awaits.
Ridden with confidence by William Buick he eased into the lead just over a furlong from home and kept on strongly to register a pleasing victory by two and three quarter lengths.
It was a performance that can be marked up when you consider that the third horse Blenheim Belle finished fully nine and a half lengths in arrears.
Al Azhar is progressing nicely and should still be competitive once the handicapper has the chance to assess this latest triumph gained from a mark of 69.
